June 2008: Enzo Maccarinelli, who lost his WBO cruiserweight crown to British rival David Haye in March, is set make his long-awaited return to the ring by taking part in a ten round bout at the Aston Villa Leisure Centre in Birmingham on Saturday 19 July.
Enzo admits that the bout, due to be televised live on Setanta, is a way to prove himself to the British public who have doubted him since he lost his ‘world’ title.
“I was never going to let the loss to David Haye be the end of my career,” He said.
“Even though I was absolutely devastated and at the lowest point in my life, I knew in my heart that I couldn’t go out on a loss like that.
“Since then I’ve re-grouped, got my head together and now I’m raring to get back into the ring once again.
“People will be questioning whether I’m lacking confidence or I’m gun shy but from the first bell they will see that I mean business.”
